1. Free Walking Sofia Tour - Kalau you all ada lebih masa, kat Sofia ni ada NGO yang organized Free Sofia Tour, yes it's free. It is a Walking Tour which runs 365 days a year no matter the weather conditions (incl weekends, national holidays, Christmas, Easter etc). [April-October: 10 AM, 11 AM & 6 PM], [November-March: 11 AM & 6 PM]
I memang sarankan you guys join, sbb dia akan bawa to all tourist attraction above and explain their history. Dari just tgk the place without knowing the story behind it, lagi meaningful if we know their history and background. Trust me, the tour was very interesting and informative. For just few people, there is no need to reserve your place, just show up at the meeting point and they will bring you around. It takes around 2 hours for this tour tapi mmg tak rasa pon. If ada lebih 10 orang, it's better to contact them so that they are prepared. The starting point is near Serdika stations too, so mmg tak susah nak cari! For more details boleh tgk website ni. https://freesofiatour.com/free-sofia-tour/
2. Orang kat sini nampak kasar, but infact they are friendly. Most of them can speak English but ada jugak yang tak. Depends on your luck, so please prepare your google translate just in case.
3. Alphabet kat sini memang tak sama, but normally kalau sign board mmg ada in both English and Cyrillic. It took me a month to belajar their alphabets sbb tak de choice sbb mmg nk stay kat sini. kalau naik public transport pon, especially metro, mmg ada in both language. Tapi kena alert jugak la. Kalau bas mmg takde announcement in English.
4. Transportation
Public transportation kat sini not bad. Kalau dari airport, mmg ade direct metro from Airport to City. Kalau nk explore the main tourist attraction just take the metro and stop at Serdika. From Serdika, you're all set, semua main attraction are within walking distance from this station.
Fares boleh refer kat wesbite ni https://www.sofiatraffic.bg/…/tarifa-i-prevozni-…/702/tariff. They have English version too.
5. Kat Bulgaria ni famous dgn Bulgarian rose, it cost much more expesive than gold. So sebab tu dorang byk produce cosmetics berasaskan Rose. For souvenir, you guys can buy perfume, lotion, soap, yg berasaskan rose. I love their rose perfume. Ada yg mahal, ada yg affordable, ada yg murah jugak. Kat Central Hall (Tsentralni Hali) which is just opposite Banya Bashi mosque ada jugak jual produk-produk ni.
6. Souvenirs - Kalau nak beli souvenirs pon dkt Serdika station, there are bunch of Souvenirs shop kat situ after the Serdika metro exit. Then from there, you can see the Amphitheater of Serdika and Banya Bashi mosque. Even kalau tak ambik metro, tourist still able to access this place.
7. Halal food
There is one Turkish Restaurant, at the corner of Banya Bashi mosque. Boleh makan kat sini. Olive restaurant. Ni yg paling senang nak cari 🙂
8. Currency - Kat sini mmg guna Leva, they dont accept anything else. But credit and debit card are widely used. Kat Malaysia mmg takde currency ni, so kene tukar siap-siap kat airport or kat mana-mana money changer berdekatan. There is one at Ancient Complex Serdika, and next to Olive restaurant. Kat bus station pon ada.
9. Connection to neighbouring country
Selain flight, boleh juga naik bus. The bus connection from Sofia to neighbouring country mmg banyak option. Kalau nak ke Skopje, Istanbul, Romania, Croatia, Austria, Czech Republic, and few other memang boleh naik bus. Train pon boleh, but it takes longer. Bus station is accessible by metro, just naik metro and stop at Central Railway Station. The Central Railway Station is the metro stop for both train and bus station.
10. Skii resort - Pada penggemar Ski/snowboarding, kat Bulgaria ni mmg terkenal dgn skii resort especially during Winter. And they go hiking during summer. Yang plg dkt is Vitosha mountain, tak jauh from Sofia. If you're in Sofia, and and if the weather is bright and sunny, you will clearly see the mountains. The mountains is visible from everywhere. Sbb tu in Sofia, their government control the building development sbb dia taknak bangunan-bangunan tinggi covers their beautiful mountains. The mountain is like the latar belakang of the city, one of their pride. But no kidding, mmg cantik. I saw them from my office everyday, but I never feel tired looking at them. If you're from Sofia, you can take the bus, and then naik lift (Cable car) to the top. The 2 way tickets for the lift costs 15Leva (RM38).
